Step 5: YOUR TERRACE, BC FIELD GUIDE
Terrace is situated in the heart of Ts'msyen territory with our neighbouring First Nations communities, **Kitsumkalum to the west, and Kitselas to the east. It is a vibrant and growing city in the heart of the Pacific Northwest Division, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Coast Mountain range and the Skeena River.
Terrace is the commercial centre for the area and it also has the largest regional population base in this part of the province. It is the service, educational, medical, and transportation hub of the region.
The City of Terrace, also known as “Home of the Kermode Bear”, is located on a series of natural flat benches, or terraces (hence the name) within the broad & mighty Skeena River Valley.
While Terrace is super proud of it’s family-friendly and small-town roots, it also delivers big on amenities. You will find a selection of retail businesses, trendy cafes, cozy neighbourhood pubs, a brewery, & a variety of restaurants to choose from. Rich in First Nations culture, Terrace has a thriving arts community with an art gallery as well as a performing arts centre, and also boasts the largest Farmers’ Market in Northern BC.
Like other communities in the region, Terrace is a great place for outdoor activities like hiking, golfing, skiing (alpine and nordic), fishing, snowmobiling, mountain biking, kayaking, and snowshoeing.
